In case we thought that health problems related to deprivation were “over there,” consider this: Life expectancy for men in the most deprived part of Glasgow, Scotland, is 54. In India, the aver- age for men is 62. In Wash- i ngton, D.C., it’s 63 for black links of london discount. In India, 80 percent of the popula- tion live on $2 a day; no one in Glasgow or Washington lives on that. The poor of the United States and the United Kingdom don’t die because of dirty water or links of london calories. But they do die prematurely because of the circumstances in which they are born, grow, live, work and age - the social determinants of health. Health inequity is a problem for all of us in countries at all levels of income and development. We therefore have to share understanding and approaches. We have much to learn from each other.
(Also), the globalization genie is out of the bottle. There is no “them” and “us,” only “us.” We are inter- connected in ways both obvious and less so links of london bracelets. People in low- and middle-income countries grow food, make clothes and consumer prod- ucts, and staff call centers for people in high-income countries. In high-income countries, financial institu- tions, elected politicians and multinational corpora- tions make decisions with far-reaching effects globally. A drought in Australia, crops for biofuels in the United States, plus a little market speculation and a rise in oil prices, and the price of food goes up globally and links of london jewellery people close to the margin (of poverty) cannot afford to eat.
How would you characterize the progress made on global health inequities since 2005, when the commission was created?
An aspiration for the commission has been to foster a global movement for health equity and the social determinants of health links of london sweetie bracelet. My abiding nightmare was that the commission would produce a report and nothing would happen. To try and prevent that we have formed partnerships with a number of countries, we have forged links with civil society organizations, we have engaged scores of academics and practitioners from around the world in our knowledge networks.
